3.1.4 Main categories of services provided by marine ecosystems
Besides these necessary distinctions between habitats, processes, ecological functions, ecosystem services and benefits, it remains helpful to define ecosystem services according to the conventional classification of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment [MEA, 2003].
The following table presents an extensive list of categories of goods, services and benefits provided by marine and coastal ecosystems, according to the literature review published by Liquete et al. [2013].
